Det er en længere diskussion hvad der er det "rigtige". Der er mange holdninger til det. Men generelt har bomuldssnoren en bedre evne til at "gribe" yoyoen ved returnering (lettere for begyndere). Men den ikke slidstærk og skal skiftes oftere. Polyestersnoren er mere slidstærk og mere "glat".
